Objective : The two years Master of Disaster Management (MDM) Degree conducted by The Global Open University (TGOU), Uganda has been designed for meeting the demand of the growing needs of professionals in the fields of Disaster Mitigation, Hydrological, Coastal, Marine, Atmospheric, Geological, Technical, Forests, Wind and Water Driven Disasters for mitigating the effects of earthquakes, floods, droughts, cyclonic storms, hurricanes, tornados, tsunami, elnino, landslides, avalanches besides man made disasters like wars, forest fires, technological disasters, accidents in factories, aeroplane disasters, ship disasters etc.Duration : Two years Award : Two Years Master of Disaster Management (MDM) Degree shall be awarded to all the successful candidates by The Global Open University, Uganda. Teaching Methodology : The Global Open University, Uganda will accord admission to the students and provide them all facilities including counselling, identity cards, lessons, guidance, full time / part time / distance education. Subjects : First Year 1. Introduction to Disaster Mitigation 2. Hydrological, Coastal and Marine Disasters 3. Atmospheric Disasters 4. Geological, Mass Movement Disasters Second Year 5. Forests Related Disasters 6. Wind and Water Driven Disasters 7. Technological Disasters 8. Master's Thesis Study Materials : Printed Lessons will be provided to all the admitted students besides the contact classes organised on a regular full time / part time basis. Tuition and Other Fee : The total fee for the two years Master's Degree Programme is US Dollars 2225 payable in four instalments. The first instalment of US Dollars 725 is payable at the time of admission. The remaining three instalments of US Dollars 500 is payable every six months. The details of fee to be paid by the students of Master of Disaster Management (MDM) Degree of The Global Open University, Uganda are as follows : US Dollars Admission and Registration Fee 225.00 Tuition Fee for Four Semesters 2000.00 Total US Dollars 2225.00 Accordingly, the completed Application Form alongwith four passport size photographs, copies of certificates and mark sheets and a Cheque / Bank Draft for the first instalment of fee (US $ 725) in the name of "The Global Open University" payable at Kampala must reach the Admissions Officer, The Global Open University, 28 Ntinda View Crescant, Naguru Nakawa Division, Kampala by Registered Post or by Courier. The payment may also be made in cash in the local currency at the Admissions Counter of the University. Confirmation of Admission : The Admissions Office will issue the money receipt and send confirmation letters to all admitted participants within a week from the date of the receipt of completed applications and first instalment of fee and copies of certificates and testimonials. The identity card and lessons will be provided to the students by post within a month. Examination Scheme : Each paper is of 100 marks out of which 25 marks are for internal assessment where as 75 marks are for written examination. Master's Thesis : All admitted participants will be submitting a Master's Thesis based on any topic related to natural and man made disasters like earthquakes, floods, dambursts, epidemics, water hazards, desertification, landslides, cyclones, storms and related wind driven disasters, volcanism, rockfalls, mudflows, glaciers, snow avalanches, land degradation, droughts, famines, wild fires, forests fires, frost disasters, air and rail accidents, industrial hazards, mining disasters, war and civil strife, refugee, military activity, terrorism, housing development in earthquake, drought prone, flood prone areas, safety of high rise buildings.
